What?
jld is a dynamic design studio based in Surrey, equidistant between London and Brighton – almost exactly in fact.
Eminating from within is a passion to improve the general quality of the work on the internet – and if that just means that we set an example to everyone else, then so be it.
We work in sets of three – this’ll become rather obvious if you continue to read about what we do and how we do it. Our designs essentially follow the triplet “clean”, “simple” and “effective” but we just take that as our foundation.
Our websites use XHTML1.1 and CSS2 to start with, and we make sure that (without fail) they validate. On top of this, we follow the W3C‘s accessibility guidelines to make sure that a) your site doesn’t contravene the BDDA and b) that anyone who wants to marvel at our handywork can do so freely and easily (it also has many advantages for you too)
Why?
Unlike far too many designers, I don’t do it just for the money (although I wont be arrogant and deny that the money is an incentive) – I do it for a love of good design and a hatred of bad design – and there are far too many of those about.
How?
If I told you that, I’m afraid I’d have to kill you…
Or not given that it merely revolves around three main things:
The first is one that most people posess – an imagination.
The second is something that you and I (and many other people have access to) – a computer w/ broadband connection.
The third is something that the Chinese and Japanese picked up on quite early on – tea. I have to say that it has to be one of the greatest discoveries ever, without which I wouldn’t be able to get up in the morning and would never get any work done, or if I did, it would to totally half-arsed. Which thankfully (for you) it isn’t.
Me, Myself and I:
Essentially, Juiced Lime Design is the brand under which British student Will Scott operates.
The name originated after some sleepless nights (good ol’ insomnia) and many cups of tea and comes from the idea of being “fresh”
Will has 9 years of experience in coding HTML – although this has developed somewhat, as have the trends and standards set on the internet. Today the skillset stands at: (in order of proficiency)
- XHTML 1.1 and CSS
- PHP and MySQL
- Graphic / Ad Design
- Drinking cups of tea
- Speaking extensively in the 3rd Person
- XSLT, XPath, XML etc.
- Ruby on Rails
- Flash
However, jld is not afraid to employ the skils of designers more suited to a particular element – e.g. Jeremy Bowles – who does some wonderful flash & video work which was needed for a client.
