A shade of Brown

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

So, the dust has settled after what is steadily appearing to be Gordon Brown’s last budget and people are starting to see it for what it really is – a cover.
However, the front to it is most definitely an attempt to drum up support for his campaign – especially in Scotland – his own people, where he is rapidly losing support ahead of the 3rd May elections.

I’d much rather have Miliband (either of them) as the leader of the Labour party – in fact it’d make me more inclined for vote for them, as I would probably have voted for Blair in the previous three elections, but there is no way on earth that I will vote for Gordon Brown.

Apologies for the slight hint of a rant, but at least I didn’t move on to our esteemed President and Lord of the Universe, George W Bush… :|

Recovery

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

I’ve just finished watching the extremely moving drama on BBC1 – “Recovery” starring David Tennant and Sarah Parish. The subject matter it touched upon is one that I feel that the general public as a whole is under-informed about at that is any sort of brain damage.

It would obvious have a significant effect on the immediate family and those who know the person well – as I think was demonstrated poignantly in the program but one important factor which was highlighted is the fact that most often the person who has suffered the injury will have no recollection of the event or possibly the early stages of recovery and thus will not be aware that anything has happened.
For most of us, I think that is quite hard to understand, but I think that the emotional power that the writers and actors put into the drama was, certainly for me, sufficient to make me pause and think and the overwhelming question it posed was: “Without our minds, what have we got?”

Anyway – it clashed with Lewis so I’ve recorded that and will hopefully watch it after School on Saturday (yes, some of us do work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week with no pay) and I’m ever hopefull that that will live up to the expections that the pilot and last week’s episode have instilled in me.
